Campbell to Barton: ‘Apologize or resign’

Campbell to Barton: ‘Apologize or resign’

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – House Minority Leader Chad Campbell, D-Phoenix (District 24), issued this statement following comments Rep. Brenda Barton, R-Payson (District 6), made comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.

“To call Rep. Brenda Barton’s comments disgraceful is an understatement. Her ignorance is appalling and offensive. By comparing President Obama to Hitler, she has trivialized the Holocaust, insulted those who suffered and disrespected those who fought to stop the atrocities occurring during that time. It appears she did this because she is ignorant of the facts. If that is the case, then I would be happy to review some historical accounts of what actually happened with her. The other alternative is that she did this simply to garner both media attention and political points with radical extremists. Whatever her reason, her actions are unbecoming of an elected public servant and are an embarrassment to the state. She should apologize or resign.”

  1. “To call Rep. Chad Campbell's comments disgraceful is an understatement. His ignorance is appalling and offensive. By comparing his political opponents to radical extremists, he has trivialized the meaning of phrase "radical extremism", insulted those who suffered and disrespected those who fought to stop the atrocities occurring during attacks at the hands of actual radical extremists. For example, the 3,000 people killed in the bombing of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, The The 264 people injured and 3 people killed on April 15, 2013, the 52 other foiled plots by radical extremists to destroy America and american lives since the 9/11 attacks. It appears he did this because he is ignorant of these facts. If that is the case, then I would be happy to review some historical accounts of what a radical extremist is with him. The other alternative is that he did this simply to both garner political points with his followers and malign his political oppnents. Whatever his reason, his actions are unbecoming of an elected public servant and are an embarrassment to the state. He should apologize or resign.”
