Mendez, groups hold press conference and community dialogue to discuss

productive response to Tempe “hate speech”

 

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX In response to continued community concern about comments made by Tempe minister Steven Anderson (see link below), state Representative Juan Mendez, D-Tempe (District 26) is hosting a press conference to discuss productive ways to engage with violent rhetoric.

 

Mendez will be joined by representatives from communities targeted by Anderson, and will include statements from Amy Altshuler, the Arizona Anti-Defamation League; Gabriella Chevalier, Peer Solutions; Nate Rhoton, Equality Arizona; Johnny Martin, Interfaith Youth Core; Reverend Sue Ringler, Guardian Angels Catholic Community; and Reverend Doug Bland, Community Christian Church. Speakers hope to collaborate with community members to prevent violence and to avoid legitimizing extreme ideology.


The press conference and discussion is open to the community.
