The U.S. Senate is back in session this week after some Republican members tried to stay out of the public eye when they went home for the Fourth of July. That is probably because news of the problems with their proposed #BCRA continued to spread. Just this past weekend, Arizona's Sen. John McCain stated the repeal and replace bill was “probably going to be dead.” We need you to keep the pressure on him to let him know Arizonans don't support #BCRA.
Arizona's own Sen. Flake didn’t seem to want to meet with a group who went to his office to urge him to oppose the health care bill last week. In fact, several people were cited for trespassing in his office. Maybe he didn't want to chat because he heard that an Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System report showed that if #BCRA moves forward, by 2026 our state stands to lose:
- AHCCCS health care coverage for 400,000 people
- $2.9 billion in federal funds for nearly 2 million AHCCCS recipients
- $2.2 billion due to a per capita cap
- $$2 billion from a hospital assessment that ends in 2020
And these costs don't address the quality of life and health-related losses Arizonans will suffer.
A new poll shows that only 12 percent of Americans support #BCRA. That should be a clear sign that Republicans should stop their attempt to hinder access to health care. Instead, some are threatening to repeal the current health care law without an immediate replacement. You must stay on target and keep the pressure on our senators. Keep calling, emailing and tweeting Senators Flake and McCain. Tell them we need them to #ProtectOurCare!
