STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Leaders of the Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus released this statement after the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, for so-called Dreamers:
"Today's action by President Trump is cruel. DACA offered no pathway to citizenship or permanent protections. However, it was a sensible policy that provided millions of young people with a chance to achieve the American dream. The DACA program allowed certain individuals to participate in our communities in a positive way. DACA recipients were able to continue their education, apply for employment, and even pay taxes. All of which further helped strengthen Arizona's economy and allowed these individuals to serve their country.”
The bipartisan Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus has 17 members from both the state House and Senate. Members hold strategic leadership positions and promote legislation and policies that directly affect Latinos in Arizona. The caucus also encourages Latinos to engage in the political process through public policy and community events.
