PHOENIX- Representative César Chávez, Chair of the LGBTQ Legislative Caucus, released the following statement on Governor Ducey signing anti-transgender bills SB1138, which bans gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth, and SB1165 banning transgender girls from playing in sports.
"The actions taken today leave a devastating stain on our state’s history. The signing of SB1138 and SB1165 is a vicious, direct attack on one's freedoms, liberties, and human rights. It is disgusting to see the right-wing continue to jam through legislation that does nothing but infringe on the human rights of everyday people, especially our children and youth. Arizona should be a place where all individuals are celebrated, protected, and loved for who they are, not attacked with hateful, anti-choice, anti-freedom bills that aim to solve non-existent problems. Trans rights are human rights, and justice will continue to be fought for."
