NOGALES, Ariz. - The City of Nogales announced on Wednesday that it has secured $6.2 million in state general fund support to repair and improve three major roads:

Frank Reed Road, Industrial Park Road, and La Quinta Road. This investment represents a significant commitment from the State of Arizona in recognition of Nogales' vital role as an international trade hub and gateway for the nation. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has executed intergovernmental agreements, and payment was processed in August to move these projects forward.

Mayor Jorge Maldonado and council members were joined at their Wednesday meeting by State Senator Rosanna Gabaldon (LD21) and State Representative Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (LD21), who both played critical roles in securing the funding during budget negotiations. The effort was marked by bipartisan collaboration, with Republican and Democratic support.

"These projects are about more than fixing roads. They are about investing in Nogales" future, strengthening our role in Arizona's economy, and improving the quality of life for our residents," Gabaldón said.

Gabaldón reaffirmed her long-standing commitment to Nogales, which she has represented since 2013. She underscored the importance of these road improvements not only for safety and traffic flow but also for supporting international commerce through the Mariposa Port of Entry, one of the busiest ports in the nation. She also stressed that this is only the beginning of continued investment, with water policy and additional infrastructure priorities on the horizon.

Rep. Stahl Hamilton highlighted Nogales's unique international and multicultural resources and emphasized her commitment as Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Committee to secure resources that benefit rural Arizona.

"It was an honor to help deliver a bipartisan budget that prioritized local infrastructure, especially in rural and border communities like Nogales that are so important to our state and national economy," Stahl Hamilton said.

City leaders expressed gratitude to Gabaldón, Stahl Hamilton, and all who advocated for Nogales, noting that the improvements will benefit residents and businesses alike in the long term.
