House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos selected Ortega to serve on the new board, which consists of nine appointed voting members and one non-voting ex-officio member from the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, with appointments coming various city, county and state elected bodies contributing taxpayer funds to the Chase Field renovation and repairs. According to the new law creating the stadium district, the House Democratic appointee must be a business owner located within three miles of the stadium. Ortega has operated his law firm just north of downtown Phoenix since 2011.

"Danny Ortega is one the best legal minds in our state, and he has always been incredibly grounded and focused on fairness and making our community stronger," De Los Santos said. "With substantial taxpayer funds being invested through this legislation, it is vital that our board member serve with integrity, a keen eye for detail and the best interests of stadium employees and construction personnel at heart. Danny Ortega is 100 percent that guy."

The District Board will oversee entering into agreements with contractors, tenants, and other users of all or part of the stadium owned by the district. That will include reconstructing, repairing, equipping, maintaining, or improving the facility or its adjacent buildings. They will also be responsible for an annual report to Joint Legislative Budget Committee and the Governor's budget staff to track use of the tax revenue.
