PHOENIX – House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos released the following statement regarding the unwarranted killing of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earlier today. Pretti, 37, was an intensive care nurse at the VA hospital in Minneapolis. Renee Good, also 37, was a writer, poet and mother of three.
"What happened on the streets of Minneapolis today with Alex Pretti, and earlier this month with Renee Good, were unjustified, lawless executions by a rogue masked federal secret police force answering to a madman in the White House. Alex and Renee deserve justice and the people of Minnesota deserve peace. This is not border security or immigration enforcement. Arizonans believe in border security—and they also believe in human decency, due process, and the rule of law. What we are seeing from ICE has long ago crossed a line. Armed and untrained agents conducting aggressive raids, using excessive force, wearing masks, and entering sensitive places like schools and hospitals does not make our communities safer. It creates fear. It separates families. And it undermines trust in law enforcement and public institutions. We can enforce the law without terrorizing communities. We can secure the border without violating civil rights."
