PRESS CONFERENCE: Chavez, Latino Lawmakers, Call for Probe of Aposhian and Guillen Murders

PHOENIX – Rep. César Chávez will host a press conference on Monday to call for a Congressional and United States Military investigation into the domestic-violence murders of U.S. Army Private 1st Class Vanessa Guillen at Fort Hood in Texas and Airman 1st Class Natasha Aposhian of Phoenix, who was killed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. Chávez will be joined by Megan Aposhian, Natasha's mother, and Dr. Tasha Menaker, Chief Operating Officer of the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

The press conference will take place at 9:30 a.m., Monday July 6, on the Arizona State Capitol Rose Garden, 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix. There will physical spacing for speakers and media.

Chávez has rallied members of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators to write a letter to Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy and the chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees to investigate why disappearances and deaths of Guillen and Aposhian were not initially treated with more urgency by local and military authorities.
