PHOENIX – Rep. César Chávez praised an effort announced by Gov. Ducey last week to embark on a COVID-19 testing surge in hard-hit west Valley and South Phoenix neighborhoods where wait times for tests have stretched for hours. Chávez has been working with the Governor's office to connect with non-profits like Chicanos Por La Causa and healthcare providers Equality Health and Akos to ramp up testing in multiple west Valley zip codes. Gov. Ducey announced "Project Catapult" on July 9.
“We continue to see astronomical growth in infection rate, especially in my district. That is because my constituents do not have the luxury to stay home," said Chávez, D-Phoenix. "They have to choose between the risks of getting infected or being able to put food on the table for their families. This is why I urged the Governor’s office to work with me in expanding COVID testing and education for the Maryvale and West Valley population.”
