'JennAAAAAHHHhhhfers' to Compete in Special Olympics Over the Edge Challenge

MEDIA ALERT

November 16, 2022

PHOENIX – Representative Jennifer Pawlik and Assistant Democratic Leader Jennifer Longdon will team up to take part in the Special Olympics "Over the Edge Challenge" on Saturday in Downtown Phoenix. Dubbing their team, the JennAAAAAHHHhhhfers, Pawlik and Longdon are helping raise money for Special Olympics by descending 27 stories down the side of the Cityscape building suspended by ropes. Pawlik and Longdon are scheduled to make their descent around 10 a.m.

"I use a wheelchair and I'm terrified of heights, but that's what this challenge is all about," said Longdon. "Special Olympians face hurdles and challenges all the time and they overcome them by, metaphorically, stepping off that ledge with courage and determination. That's what living with a disability has taught me. You face hurdles, fear and uncertainty every day and you just have to take a deep breath and do it anyway."

"The scariest thing I've ever done before this was run for office," Pawlik said. "But as a person who really wants kids of all ages to have every opportunity, this was an exciting way to raise some money so that Special Olympians can achieve their goals. I've never done anything quite like this, I think it's going to be fun. I hope I'm right."
